TrellisWare Technologies, Inc. is developing advanced communication systems for use in various military and commercial applications.


Job Function: This position is responsible for system-level product feature, architecture, and application definitions as well as product level validation and test oversight for existing and emerging products. The Product Systems Engineer will serve as technical lead on engineering development programs.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Leads system design and functional development of new product ideas to ensure the organization's continued growth.
  • Architecture development, white paper authoring, technical proposal development, systems integration efforts, leadership of software and hardware debug and testing, and driving project technical efforts to completion.
  • Analyzes and assesses complex communication systems in a wide range of technical disciplines including RF, PHY, MAC/Networking, handheld and embedded communications products, real time embedded and interactive application software, situational awareness and other DSP algorithms, and battery/power systems.
  • Ensures that requirements are understood, well communicated and allocated to various subsystems so that the resulting products perform in a consistent, dependable manner in order to maintain high quality product development and test.
  • Assists in definition and implementation of system test and demonstration efforts for system debug, performance/quality assessment and acceptance.
  • Performs implementation trades of new applications, technology, materials, and processes based on practical constraints to enhance the performance of existing products and improve reliability/ease of use and/or lower cost.
  • Acts as a resource/expert for specific competencies and provides mentoring, review, and direction to other engineering staff. Represents company well in system technical communications, both verbally and in writing.
  • Works closely with program managers to define, estimate, plan, and execute projects within technical, budget, and schedule constraints. Provides timely and accurate status of technical aspects on projects and serves as project engineer as required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Education and Work Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or related field of study required. Master's degree or higher preferred.
  • At least eight (8) years related Communication Systems Engineering experience.
  • Experience in the System Engineering process disciplines of a large military defense contractor preferred.

  • Demonstrates knowledge of efficient methods to develop systems and meet program goals.
  • Ability to plan and execute multi-discipline development programs as well as assist stable, producible system designs to production.
  • Understands complex, emerging technical concepts and communicating them in an accurate but understandable way to others, both internal and external, without the related, deep technical background.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of design, manufacturing, testing, and inspection procedures for volume handheld and embedded radio products.
  • Able to successfully multitask across several projects and, based on experience level, may perform in the role of project engineer on those projects.
  • Able to quickly pick up, understand deeply and explain emerging communications technical concepts, systems implementation and test while assisting in key design decisions is essential.
  • Interacts with different disciplines including engineering (HW, SW, RF, firmware and communications theory), manufacturing, operations, supply chain, and program management to ensure that products meet all key criteria, such as specified functionality, manufacturability, reliability, marketability, cost targets, and sustainability.
  • Works independently, demonstrates initiative and interacts with a variety of engineering development teams.
  • Demonstrates strong documentation skills and proficient with PC office applications.
  • Demonstrates analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrates strong written and verbal communication skills.
