TrellisWare Technologies, Inc. is developing advanced communication systems for use in various military and commercial applications.


Job Function:  This position is responsible for engineering product development activities that guide and support new products through design, production, and end of life.  This position will be involved in product design, manufacturing processes, test processes, quality assurance, maintenance, and troubleshooting. The Product Engineer will also coordinate product development and support activities between Product Management, Engineering, Manufacturing, and Sales.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Works closely with engineering, manufacturing, and business unit leadership to analyze and propose product improvements and changes. Provides timely and accurate status of technical aspects on product development activities and may serve as a project engineer as required.
  • Establish production yield targets from pre-production to production release.
  • Work closely with engineering ME/EE and Marketing to establish design practices for DFM
  • Review product BOM for second and third source component availability
  • Generate and maintain SPC for all key specs which define our competitive product
  • Work closely with design and assembly to disposition yield failures
  • Define early assembly metrics to drive assembly yields ( PCB to enclosures )
  • Develop yield target improvement plan and time line of improved yield targets
  • Work with test engineering to validate all functional test followed by performance testing
  • Establish test limits which maintain the yield targets defined above
  • Establish test coverage for each product and define key test points for early failure detection to forecast performance issues (Establish correlation of DC parameters to RF performance)
  • Fully understand tests flows and system integration of sub-assemblies for best early test coverage
  • Champion test limit changes for yield improvements by bringing hard limits to competitive spec limits into focus
  • Work closely with test and engineering to develop a production test program without loss of test coverage
  • Reduce test time through test order and number points per test for performance testing
  • Define critical spot noise testing for spectral purity reducing test time
  • Coordinates product development activities for new and existing products to ensure the organization's continued product growth and customer satisfaction.
  • Analyzes and assesses product issues and coordinates engineering support activities over a wide range of engineering disciplines.
  • Ensures that product requirements from Product Management are understood, well communicated, and that development, test, and manufacturing activities are performed in a consistent, dependable manner to maintain high quality products.
  • Assists in defining objectives and qualifying manufacturing and test processes.
  • Assesses opportunities to enhance the performance of existing products and improve reliability/ease of use and/or lower cost. 
  • Leads the assessment and coordination of engineering design support and updates for manufacturing improvements and component obsolescence.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Education and Work Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or related field of study required. Master's degree a plus.
  • At least ten (10) years of applicable product development and manufacturing engineering experience for high technology electronics/communication products.
  • Experience across various engineering disciplines including electromechanical design and testing of industrial/military products preferred.

  • Proficient in using statistical analysis toolkits.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of efficient methods to develop manufacturing and test processes and meet product quality goals.
  • Ability to coordinate multi-discipline development programs as well as assist with transferring stable, producible designs to production.
  • Understands complex technical concepts and can communicate them in an accurate but understandable way to others, both internal and external, without the related, deep technical background.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of design, manufacturing, testing, and inspection procedures for volume handheld embedded radio or similar products.
  • Able to successfully multitask across several projects and, based on experience level, may perform in the role of project engineer on those projects.
  • Ability to quickly pick up, understand and explain product technical concepts and systems implementations while assisting in key design decisions is essential.
  • Interacts with different disciplines including engineering (HW, SW, RF, and Comm Systems), manufacturing, operations, supply chain, and program management to ensure that products meet all key criteria, such as specified functionality, manufacturability, reliability, marketability, cost targets, and sustainability. 
  • Works independently, demonstrates initiative and interacts with a variety of engineering development teams.
  • Demonstrates strong documentation skills and proficiency with PC applications.
  • Demonstrates analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrates strong written and verbal communication skills.
